What’s Learned in Vegas Shouldn’t Stay in Vegas
What’s Learned in Vegas Shouldn’t Stay in Vegas
If you have anything to do with alfalfa - from production to consumption - the place to be in early December is Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2011 Western Alfalfa and Forage Conference. The program begins with an optional bus tour of an agricultural region one hour south of Las Vegas. There, at Two Hawk Ranch in Sandy Valley, you’ll see alfalfa production under pivot irrigation and learn about irrigation management, weed control, forage quality, harvest and cubing operations, and fertilizer practices. The 1½-day conference begins with a series of presentations covering hay industry trends and moves to the larger issues of world trends and markets.

Two University of California extension agents recently weighed in on tainted greens from animal agriculture’s perspective, possibly a first. “Down on the Farm” host Tom Willey engages farm advisors Brooke Latack and Rebecca Ozeran on safer salads versus feel-good industry response.
